"Who In
The Heck Is
Marian Lewis?"
Marian Lewis is a dynamic
and very
knowledgeable sewing instructor, fitting expert and author who
developed and
taught a common sense
approach to both sewing and fitting for many years.
Her students really enjoy her classes. Marian naturally makes the
classes fun and easy to learn.
Raised in Southwestern Pennsylvania as a coal miner’s daughter, Marian
learned her common sense methods out of necessity. She was one of
five children.
Being born poor and a misfit with a spinal curvature was the incentive
for Marian to make her own clothes as well as those for her family and
friends.
Her passion for teaching sewing began in her teens. She started
teaching
her girl friends how to sew. After her marriage to her high
school
sweetheart, Bob Lewis, and having two babies, she set up her own sewing
school and taught her neighbors and local folks in the Pittsburgh, PA
area.
Then came her husband's job transfer to New Jersey. This brought
a lot of changes in their lives. Marian survived a bout with
cancer, still did some teaching and took on a "real" job at AT&T to
help get her kids through college.
While at AT&T, the Lewises went to work in Tehran, Iran and had to
leave before their tour was finished due to the unrest in that
country. They felt it was a great experience for both of
them. Marian began documenting her sewing and fitting methods.
Back to New Jersey. The kids got married. Bob had his turn
with cancer and Marian had her second go round. Now, they decided
it was time to move to Florida and enjoy the sunshine.
Bob decided to sell real estate and still does. And, you guessed
it, Marian taught sewing and helped her husband with his real estate
business.
She is a member of her local American Sewing Guild and served as their
first "Member At Large" when they formed the Fort Myers Chapter.
Still living in Florida, Marian sees her aging generation having great
difficulty finding or making garments that fit, especially pants.
To help them, she felt compelled to publish her methods that work for
all generations and shapes.
Marian decided to publish her works on her own website.
WOW! What an undertaking!
She began with "What You Need

as the theme for her site.
Marian's first book was a fitting course: "Common
Sense Fitting Method For Hard-To-Fit Sewing Folks Who Want Great
Fitting Skirts And Pants."
She also saw her Sewing Guild friends struggling with sewing
techniques. So, she decided to publish her favorite, common
sense sewing courses, "It

Homemade" Sewing
Techniques.
She wrote detailed sewing instructions for one of her most requested
classes on how to sew a couture "Classy Designer Straight Skirt."
And she covered tons of basic and intermediate sewing techniques in her
fun sewing courses:

Marian writes articles for several sewing publications including the

Learning how to publish on the web was no easy task for this old
Gammy! This time, the grandchildren were the ones encouraging
her!

Marian is writing other books to pass on to her grandchildren as well

She especially enjoys just being with her husband and kids that include
four awesome
grandchildren.
